Denture Stabilization with Dental Implants

Types of Denture Stabilization
Snap-in dentures use two dental implants in the upper or lower jaw with little attachments that snap onto the denture. The location of the implants is critical to effective retention, and Dr. Bensoussan makes sure they are correctly located.
Snap-in Dentures provide:
- Much stronger retention than a traditional denture — won’t fall out unexpectedly
- No need for adhesive in most cases
- Easier to eat and speak confidently
- Improved chewing power compared to regular dentures
Dr. Bensoussan recommends snap-ins for the lower jaw as this has the most issues with loose dentures and two implants can usually do the job of stabilization. In the upper jaw, the bone is softer and four implants are needed to provide sufficient support. Patients can opt to only stabilize their lower denture.

A bar overdenture is a denture that attaches to a custom titanium bar connected to dental implants. Dr. Bensoussan uses two or four implants. A two-implant bar overdenture gives strong retention and stronger stability, shifting less under pressure, than snap-ins. A four-implant bar overdenture gives a lot more benefits, including:
- The denture feels significantly more secure—close to a fixed bridge
- Retention, stability and support are strong
- The upper palate can often be removed, restoring natural taste and comfort
- Significantly stronger chewing power
- Preserves bone around the implants
- Easy hygiene access

For the ultimate in natural feel, function and strength, Dr. Bensoussan can attach a new set of fixed-in permanent teeth onto four to five implants.
New Teeth in One Day:
- Feels closest to natural teeth, no shifting or slipping
- Removes the false palate in the upper arch
- Restores full chewing power
- No adhesive, ever
- Prevents further bone loss throughout the upper and/or lower jaw
- Can dramatically improve confidence, speech and facial structure
- Can give you a beautiful, smile, with natural-looking zirconia for the upper teeth

Eliminate loose dentures and increase chewing power
Dr. Bensoussan uses two to four dental implants to stabilize dentures. This prevents slippage, eliminates adhesives and increases chewing power. Depending on which solution you choose, you can also eliminate the upper false palate and prevent bone loss.
You can use your current denture, or we’re happy to make a new one for you.

Who are candidates for Denture Stabilization?
Dr. Bensoussan recommends denture stabilization for all denture wearers, as it significantly improves retention, chewing power, and can help slow bone loss. If you're struggling with loose or slipping dentures, this solution can make a meaningful difference in comfort and function. Even patients with severe bone loss—who may not qualify for procedures like New Teeth in One Day—can often receive a snap-in denture, since two implants are typically enough to provide stability.

Bone Loss and Loose Dentures
People who have been wearing dentures for a while often suffer from bone loss due to lack of sufficient chewing stimulus on the jawbone. Dentures provide only about 20 percent of natural chewing power.
The loss of jawbone structure weakens the retention of the denture and the denture becomes loose. Relining the denture only helps for a short time before it loosens again. Traditional dentures actually can accelerate bone loss as they are putting pressure on the gums and underlying bone without stimulation. The loss of jawbone tends to cave in the lower half of the face, giving a prematurely aged look. Denture Stabilization can prevent this process.
